Demand for energy remains intense and will grow more so in the coming years. There are now 7 billion people in the world and by 2040, the world’s population is likely to top 9 billion. Global demographic growth will require energy that is not only affordable, to support the planet’s economic and social development, but friendlier to the environment as well. We take the IEA 2°C scenario into account in our strategy.

Mindful of the part we play, we take action across our value chain to reduce our impact on the climate and promote the responsible use of energy:

• Improving the carbon intensity of our current production mix by: deploying an assertive strategy on gas, while strictly limiting methane emissions; selecting and developing safe, environmentally responsible, competitive oil and gas projects; innovating and expanding in carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies.
• Developing renewable energies by: growing as a leading solar player by expanding our activities along the photovoltaic chain, including distribution; adding energy storage to our businesses; developing bioenergies; promoting access to energy.
• Improving energy efficiency by: continuing our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at our facilities; providing solutions (products and services) to encourage responsible energy use by our customers.
